About Jeff Thompson
Nature photography allows me to indulge many of my hobbies and passions. I've always enjoyed the solitude available in the great outdoors. I enjoy hiking and camping, expecially within the national parks. In my younger days I was an avid caver, rock climber, and actively participated in sailboat racing, and ice boating. Throughout those times, the camera has always been with me as acompanion.
Though the camping gear has become more "comfortable" and the hikes less physically demanding, I still find the time to photograph national parks. My love for viewing life through a camera lens hasn't diminished
I grew up in Newark Ohio, graduating from The Ohio State University with a degree, focused on Special Education. After a few years teaching in Johnstown Ohio, I changed careers.
I worked in Public Relations for Cardinal Industries, the nation's largest builder of modular housing, providing me with the opportunity to hone my newly developing passion for photography. By the time I achieved the position of Vice President of Corporate Communications, my busy schedule did not allow much time for travel. But that did not deter me from scheduling several personal photo expeditions a year to national parks.
Nearly 14 years ago, I started my own advertising and marketing agency, which allowed me more freedom for personal travel as well as the professional opportunities to spend time behind the camera.
A few years ago I created an additional business called "The Light Works" which allows me to specifically market my landscape photography. I produce a line of greeting cards called, "A Sense of Wonder - Landscape as a Metaphor," combining my favorite photographs with quotes from beloved poets, thinkers, and authors.
Currently, I am working on a long-time project of mine, which is a series of books featuring my landscape photography from the past 30 years.
